It will include arrangements of the jazz standard “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” and Edward Elgar’s “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations. At 1:40 p.m, a second ensemble will perform arrangements of Johannes Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 5” and Louis Prima’s “Jump, Jive An’ Wail.”

The Northwest Wind Symphony, conducted by Artist-in-Residence John Bell, is the University’s premiere wind ensemble and performs the best standard selections from all styles and periods, in addition to recent repertoire for wind bands.

The Wind Symphony has been selected by peer reviewers to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference and Clinic and at the Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference and Clinic. In 2017, the Wind Symphony was selected by the College Band Directors National Association peer review committee as one of 10 band programs in the United States to be recognized as an exemplary collegiate Small Band Program.
