SAC Speaks: Coach Herman Boone

Coach Herman Boone, the former football coach of T. C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., as portrayed in the film "Remember the Titans" will speak at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

Boone had to endure racial intolerance from the community when he was appointed head football coach over the favorite and successful coach Bill Yost of the formerly all-white Hammond High. The two coaches were able to overcome their differences, leading their team to a State Championship victory in 1971. In the year 2000, Boone was honored with the Walt Disney production of "Remember the Titans," starring Denzel Washington. Retired from coaching, Boone currently enjoys a career as a public speaker at functions regarding his time as a high school football coach at T.C. Williams High School.
