Meghan McCain, political columnist, author and award-winning blogger, will speak at Northwest Missouri State University at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts as part of the University's Distinguished Lecture Series.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
The daughter of U.S. Sen. John McCain, she launched the blog McCainBlogette.com during the 2008 presidential campaign, to give Americans a sense of life behind-the-scenes on the campaign trail. Her blog, which connects with young voters, was awarded The Golden Dot Award for best blog and two Pollie Awards from the Association of Political and Public Affairs Professionals. McCain also published an illustrated children's book, titled, "My Dad, John McCain," about her father's heroism during the Vietnam War.
Her most recent book "Dirty Sexy Politics: A True Story," tells her personal journey across the American political landscape. It is available at the Bearcat Bookstore in the J.W. Jones Student Union.
"No matter what your political affiliation is, Meghan McCain brings a renewed interest in politics and will get people thinking about what they believe," Director of Campus Activities Angel McAdams Prescott said. "She is making a name for herself by challenging the Republican Party to be better and look at things differently, while remaining relatable to college students by her age and experiences."
Sponsored by the Office of the Provost at Northwest, the Distinguished Lecture Series features scholars, world travelers and leaders in their field.
